Maguindanao Second District Representative Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu is now married to Miss Asia Pacific International 2018 Sharifa Akeel.
The wedding of the couple took place on Wednesday, August 25, around 10 a.m., at the Al Nor Hotel & Convention Center in Cotabato City.
On Facebook, several invited guests, including Asnawe Baraguir Mawe, posted photos of the wedding.
In the photo they shared, Sharifa can be seen in a white gown and Congressman Mangudadatu in a suit.
At the reception, wedding attendees will be seen wearing masks in compliance with safety protocols against COVID-19.
The union of the legislator and the beauty queen was first announced on the Facebook page of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, Bureau of External Relations on Saturday, August 21.
Their Islamic wedding is called a “Walima Celebration”.
The “Walima Celebration” is a type of ceremony in which the Islamic wedding has to be declared publicly.
The public declaration is made by planning the Walimah or Muslim wedding reception and to let the public know that the two will be happy.
It is not yet clear how many legal wives Congressman Mangudadatu has married before Sharifa, but Muslim men are allowed to marry up to four.
Sharifa is Filipino-Qatari and was crowned Miss Asia Pacific International in 2018.
While Toto is a native of Sultan Kudarat, in Mindanao.
Congressman Mangudadatu is a veteran politician and from a political dynasty in Maguindanao.
He served as mayor of Buluan, Maguindanao from 1998 to 2007.
After his term, he ran for vice mayor of the said town and served from 2007 to 2010.
He served as governor of Maguindanao from 2010 to 2019, and was elected congressman in the 2019 elections.
Mangudadatu was one of 70 congressmen who voted “yes” so that ABS-CBN would not be granted another franchise.
He has a daughter with actress Ynez Veneracion.
